Homer Electric Association would like to thank everyone who helped make our fifth annual Energy and Conservation Fairs a great success. The fairs at the Kenai Middle School and West Homer Elementary School attracted approximately 1,000 people who received information about energy efficiency, renewable energy, recycling and other topics related to this year’s theme, “Safe, Responsible Energy Solutions.”
There is a long list of folks who deserve special recognition starting with our 2013 Platinum Sponsors, Ohlson Mountain Mineral Springs H2O and Kachemak Electric Company. Gold sponsors this year were Hilcorp Alaska, Touchstone Energy, Stanley Ford, ConocoPhillips, Urban Green Technology, Tesoro, and BP. Silver sponsors included Home Depot, Alaska Community Development Corporation, Kenai Peninsula Builders Association, Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, Spenard Builders Supply, Brown’s Electric Supply, Ferguson Heating and Cooling and Rep. Paul Seaton.
Thank you to Grant Aviation, Embassy Suites, Best Western Bidarka, Aspen Extended Stay Suites, Two Sisters Bakery, Playa Azul Restaurant,\ and Mark Glassmaker Fishing for their generous donations. Additional thanks to Re-Group for the use of their recycle bins for collecting plastic water bottles, HEA Youth Rally participant Makayla Wong for her help in the Kid Zone, Skyview High School girls basketball team and Homer High School boys basketball team for their participation in the success of the event.
HEA also extends a big thank you to the Alaska Energy Authority for sponsoring the Energy Hog demonstration which was a big hit with the children that attended the fairs.
The fairs are made possible through the generous participation of the vendors who are willing to share their expertise with HEA members. This year we had a record number of participants, including: Ace Dragon Coatings & Foam, Alaska Community Development Corp., Alaska Craftsman Home Program, Alaska Efficient Energy Solutions, AK GeoEnergy, Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, Alaska Industrial Hardware, Alaska Infrared, Alaska Small Business Development, Amso’s Carpets and Interiors, Brown’s Electric Supply, Canyon Arts School of Natural Building, Central Alaska Engineering, Central Peninsula Garden Club, CERT/Borough Office of Emergency Management, Cooperative Extension Services, Ferguson Enterprises, Gary’s Renewable Energy, Home Depot, Homer Tidal Energy Incubator, Horizon Satellite, Kachemak Electric Company, Kenaitze Indian Tribe, Ohlson Mountain Mineral Springs H2O, Peninsula Overhead Doors, ReGroup, Regulatory Commission of Alaska, Stanley Ford, State of Alaska Heating Assistance Program, Sustainable Homer, T&T Toyo Services, Urban Green Technology, Waterworks, Wisdom and Associates and Wood Heat Fire Stone.
In addition, I would like to acknowledge the administration and staff at the Kenai Middle School and West Homer Elementary. They were incredibly accommodating and their assistance was invaluable.
Homer Electric is committed to providing our members with as much information as possible to manage their energy use. We are already looking forward to our 2014 Energy and Conservation Fairs and if you have any suggestions on how to improve our fairs, we would love to hear from you.
