On behalf of the Scholarship Committee of Ptarmigan Arts, I’d like to thank the art lovers of Homer. Our cosmic hamlet is noted for its art and its artists, and this is never more evident than when we at Ptarmigan hold our annual Art and Adventure Silent Auction. This year, we received 115 donations of fine art, fiber art and adventure packages for our auction.
But the donations are only part of the story. On First Friday in November, the gallery was buzzing with Homerites bidding on their favorite items.
All the money raised in the auction goes to support visual arts scholarships for the youth of Homer. Our scholarship fund is managed by the Homer Foundation, and juniors and seniors from Homer High, Connections and Homer Flex are eligible to apply. Last year we were pleased to provide Ashley Freeman with a $900 scholarship to pursue her art right here in Homer at Kenai Peninsula College.
The silent auction continues in the Ptarmigan Arts Back Room Gallery through Dec. 4. Bidding will end at 6 p.m. on that day. It’s not too late to support the young men and women who will some day become artists here in Homer.
Again, thank you, Homer, for your support of the artistic youth of Homer.
