Kudos to Homer’s harbormaster

Posted: November 6, 2013 - 5:35pm

Bryan Hawkins doesn’t have an easy job. As harbormaster here in Homer, he  oversees the largest single-basin harbor in the state. With the help of all  of the staff in the Harbormaster’s Office, Bryan works daily to keep the  harbor running for all of the boaters coming in and out throughout the year.

We at Cook Inletkeeper have greatly appreciated our positive and open relationship with Bryan over the years. Bryan and Deputy Harbormaster Matt Clarke helped to develop the Alaska Clean Harbors program, and they worked  their way through the program to become the first certified harbor in the state. We are always able to sit down and discuss ideas, concerns and successes with Bryan, and he, Matt and the rest of the staff are always interested in considering options to reduce pollution at the harbor and protect our marine resources. They manage a large industrial facility in our  beloved Kachemak Bay, and we at Cook Inletkeeper are thankful to have Bryan at the helm. Congratulations to him, and to everyone at the harbor, on a well-deserved Harbormaster of the Year award from the Alaska Association of Harbormasters and Port Administrators.
