KBC English professor earns PhD

After years of dedication and hard work, Lia Calhoun, assistant professor of English and communications at Kachemak Bay Campus, earned her doctorate on March 23 when she successfully defended her dissertation in front of a committee from the Boston University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in Boston, Massachusetts.

Students explore careers at KBC Job and Career Fair

Local businesses, agencies, nonprofit groups and trade associations offered advice — and even some new jobs — at the annual Kachemak Bay Campus College, Career and Job Fair held at the college last Friday. About 400 students from 11 area schools as well as community members visited the annual event, said Kim Frost, KBC student and enrollment services coordinator.

Two Homer teams will head to Battle of the Books state competition

Do you remember the last book you read? Do you remember every character and plot point? Are you prepared to answer any question about any detail of that book in under 30 seconds? That’s basically what students all over the district train to do during Battle of the Books, a national reading incentive program for grades three through 12.
