Homer resident and Azusa Pacific University student Alivia Erickson has made the academic deans’ list. She is honored for a fall semester 2012 academic standing of a 3.5 or better grade-point average. Erikson is a nursing major who is joined by 1,698 other students receiving the same honor.

Kenai Peninsula Borough School District

Homer Middle School

Elementary School

Volunteers needed to: Help supervise school skiing, help in pool for swimming lessons, help in locker rooms for swimming lessons.

March 28: Spotlight lunch honoring Alexandra Casey, Raiden Skorski-O’Donnell, Natalya Gallentine, Audri Mahoney, Lucas Story, Bethany Engebretsen, Hannah Stonorov, Hayley Blaine, Liam James, Sailey Rhodes, Riley Jones, Paige Jones, Halle Lapp, Tristen Gonzales and Rio Shemet-Pitcher. Parents are invited to join their child and the principal for lunch at 11:25 a.m.

Susan B. English School

Scholarship opportunity: Jack Hopkins Scholarship available for Susan B. English graduate pursuing education and vocation-trade school, applications available at school, may be applied toward tuition, vocational-trade school fees, books or campus related-approved room and board. Selections and amounts made by the Site Base Decision Making-Parent Advisory Committee. Applicants will be informed of selection results at graduation or by mail for a post-graduate. Check will be made out to and submitted to college or vocational trade school. All applications must be postmarked or received by the school office on or before April 12.

Graduation

March 28: Alaska Bible Institute holds a graduation ceremony at 6 p.m. Due to space constraints, guests are limited to high school and older, with no chilcare available. The celebration will be held on the ABI campus, 1295 Mission Road in Homer. For more information, call 235-8647.

HEA youth rally and poster competition

The deadline for scholarship applications to the annual Homer Electric Association Youth Rally in Caldwell, Idaho, is April 1. High school sophomores and juniors are invited to apply for this expense-paid week in July, and enhance leadership skills, learn about electric cooperatives and participate in team-building exercises. Applications are available online at www.homerelectric.com or at HEA offices in Homer and Kenai.

HEA’s Safey Poster contest encourages third- and fourth-grade students within the HEA service area to artistically communicate an electrical safety message. The contest includes three categories: best electric safety message, most humorous safety message and most creative safety message. Deadline is April 1.
