Homer Police last week arrested a Homer man for stalking after a woman reported the man had started to become aggressive and controlling, vandalized her bicycle and sent her threatening text messages. 

Police arrested William O. Daugherty, 49, on Pioneer Avenue at about 12:05 a.m. June 22 shortly after the woman said Daugherty had broken a window in her Grubstake Avenue home. He is charged with first- and second-degree stalking, both felonies.

After seizing Daugherty’s car, police got a search warrant. In charging documents, police said they found four small bags of heroin, three bags of methamphetamines, a bag of marijuana and two bags of Suboxone, or buprenorphine-noxdone, a drug used to treat opiate dependency. 

Police also found three “burner” or throwaway cell phones and $432 in cash.

In charging documents, Sgt. Ryan Browning wrote that this evidence suggested Daugherty had been dealing drugs. Police charged Daugherty with first-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance and two counts of fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance.

The woman said she was only a friend of Daugherty and not in a dating or sexual relationship with him. She said that he became jealous and started to stalk her, Browning wrote in the complaint. After seeing the woman with another man, Daugherty sent her threatening text messages, she said. 

In an interview with police, Daugherty denied stalking her. In the complaint, Browning said Daugherty had been previously convicted of assault in three previous relationships with women. He also is under conditions of release for a 2014 second-degree theft charge and also was charged with violating conditions of release.
