A gray-capped rosy finch feeds at a bird feeder on Diamond Ridge last Saturday. The blue behind it is a tarp on a woodshed. The finch was part of a large flock of about 100 feeding in the area. Rosy finches were one of 54 species counted last month during the annual Homer Christmas Bird Count.

Birder's Dilemma

I have been Birding this area (Kenai Pen.) for 12 years and beyond in elsewhere locales, but this bird I have yet to see. I have some incredible sightings, but this little bugger has alluded me. It just seems impossible that it has never come to my feeders. I have been in their territory. I know how and what to feed our birds. I hang my head in disgrace...is this bird evading me? Been driving me nuts for years.

I saw a Golden Eagle hanging with the dump Eagles between Mile 105-106. I called Rare Bird and the number has been disconnected. Bummer.
