First baby of 2014 also first for parents
While holiday revelers were putting away decorations, taking down trees and turning off sparkling lights, Skyline Drive residents Brandon and Diana Moyer received a new cause to celebrate: their first child, Trenton Diesel Moyer.
Born Jan. 2, with midwife Cindy Beske present, Trenton Diesel is the first baby to be born in 2014 at South Peninsula Hospital. He weighed seven pounds, seven ounces and is the first grandchild for Kevin and Ruthie Moyer and the first grandson for Dan and Rhonda Kropf. Both sets of grandparents live in Homer.
Originally from Michigan, Diana moved to Homer eight years ago. Her parents teach at the Alaska Bible Institute and it was there she met Brandon after he relocated from Pennsylvania four years ago. The couple married Jan. 19, 2013.
Around 1 a.m. Jan. 2, the day Trenton Diesel was due to be born, the Moyers began suspecting that their son’s arrival was at hand.
“Only about five percent of babies are born on their due date,” said Beske.
Certain their son was in that 5 percent, the Moyers headed to the hospital at 6 a.m. They greeted their son at 12:44 p.m.
Others who anticipated the baby’s arrival were “three very excited cousins,” said Diana Moyer of more family in the area.
As the first baby born at South Peninsula Hospital in 2014, Trenton Diesel and his parents are the recipients of a long list of gifts from local businesses, organizations and individuals.
“Homer is very generous,” said Brandon Moyer.
The New Year baby’s gifts include: a basket with baby goods, clothes, blankets and treats from South Peninsula Hospital Auxiliary; ice grippers for mom from Spenard Builders Supply; a basket with clothing, coupons, books, treats and DVDs from Sprout; a bottle of champagne and sparkling cider from The Grog Shop; clothing, Burt’s Bees products and a water bottle from Homers Jeans; books from The Other Book Club; a onesie from The Auction Block; diapers, quilts and clothing from the Pregnancy Care Center; a $50 gift certificate from Timeless Toys; a $20 gift certificate from Homer Bookstore; a $50 Save U More gift card from the Homer Elks Lodge; a birthday cake from Two Sisters Bakery; a one-hour massage certificate from Sydney Webb; a $50 gift certificate from Cosmic Kitchen; a three-month family membership from The Bay Club; a hand-crocheted blanket from Helen Jackson; a baby blanket from Bay Realty; and a gift from Northwind Gallery.
