Trials reset in two murder cases

Trial dates for two lower Kenai Peninsula murder cases have been reset to later this year and early next year. The trial of Alfred Jones, 50, charged with manslaughter and second-degree murder in the car crash that killed Kathleen Benz, a Washington, D.C., tourist, on the 2010 Memorial Day weekend, will be held starting the week of Dec. 16 at the Homer Courthouse. Jones also has been charged with seven counts of third-degree assault, driving under the influence, and fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, methamphetamines.

A new trial set also has been set for Demarqus Green, 21, the Anchorage man accused of murdering Demian Sagerser on July 8, 2012, at Sagerser’s Stariski home. Green’s trial will be held starting the week of Jan. 27, 2014, at the Homer Courthouse.

Both men had been scheduled for trials starting next Monday, Oct. 28.
