The Force is strong with them

A line of about 25 people waited to buy tickets for the Homer premiere of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” about noon Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at the Homer Theatre. Tickets went on sale for a gala opening night on Dec. 14 as well as shows that weekend. The opening night includes a special souvenir popcorn tub as well as door prizes. At the last Star Wars film opening, some fans attended in costumes.

Ensuring all the ingredients were on hand for favorite Thanksgiving recipes and anticipating a day with loved ones and friends kept many people busy last Wednesday. Not Brant “Boog” Torsen, his wife Doris and their daughter Breeanna. They spent the morning sharing hugs and tearful good-byes with customers. At noon Wednesday, Nov. 22, they closed the doors of Boog’s Automotive.

AWIB seeks nominations for Stone award

The Alaska Workforce Investment Board (AWIB) is soliciting nominations in three categories for the David G. Stone Award, the board said in a press release. The award was established to recognize outstanding partners in workforce development and was named in recognition of Stone’s dedication to workforce development and Alaska hire.
