Alaska Air grows, improves on-time performance

Alaska Airlines significantly increased its capacity and improved its on-time performance in October, according to a monthly operational report released Nov. 3.

The mainline carrier reported a 12.3 percent increase in passenger traffic on a 13.2 percent increase in available capacity compared to October 2014. That led to a decrease in load factor, or available capacity sold, of 0.6 percent. Overall, Alaska Airlines flights were 82.8 percent full last month.

For the year, Alaska’s flights have been 84.8 percent full, down from 86 percent a year ago.

The percent of Alaska flights that arrived on time improved more than 1 percent year-over-year in October to 88.2 percent. Year-to-date, Alaska’s on-time performance is off slightly from 2014 at 86.6 percent, compared to 86.8 percent a year ago.

Regional carrier Horizon Air has seen its on-time performance slip more than 6 percent in October to 83.5 percent. This year, 84.7 percent of Horizon flights have landed on time, off 4 percent from 2014.
