Contractors move cabins for Waddell Way project

Contractors last month moved nine cabins from property at the corner of Heath Street and the extension of Waddell Way. The city purchased the property and sold the cabins to Guy Rossi, the highest bidder, who paid $93,000 for all the cabins.

Selling and moving the cabins opens the way for extending Waddell Way, a new corridor between Heath Street and Lake Street. Public Works Director Carey Meyer said the city is finishing up work on the final road design and will send it out to bid by the end of the year.

“And then it’s just weather permitting,” Meyer said. “If we have a winter like we had last year, we could start at the first of the year.”

The city also is redoing the plat of the property, separating the road easement from the rest of the lot and working with Homer Electric Association to get a wider easement on the east end of Waddell Way. The plat will go to the Homer Advisory Planning Commission for its recommendation and then to the Kenai Peninsula Borough Planning Commission for final plat approval. Once that’s done, the new lot will be sold. Meyer said the platting process will not delay construction.
