The Homer Gym hosts open house, martial arts exhibition on Saturday

The Homer Gym invites the public to its martial arts exhibition and open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The gym is located at 5279 Kachemak Drive, Bay C. There will be door prizes, a potluck lunch and a chance to win a free membership to The Homer Gym.

The free event will showcase the new Kachemak Bay Martial Arts Warrior Training Center and The Homer Gym.

Demonstrations will include T’ai Chi Chuan, Kempo/Karate, LFS-Kali (Filipino martial arts, which includes sticks and swords), Krav Maga (Israeli self defense), Homer Shotokan Karate Club and Live Action Role Play.

“Our focus for this exhibition is to celebrate the accomplishments of our students, predominately that of our youth members,” according to a press release.

The Kachemak Bay Martial Arts Warrior Training Center is a cooperative community martial arts facility that has brought together the combined talents, skills and disciplines of several martial arts instructors.

“Our primary trio of instructors that represent the biggest groups in Homer are Sensei Ken Domela of Taikyokuken Kempo, Sensei Martie Krohn of ISKF Shotokan Karate and Guro Kurt P. Leffler II from LFS-Kali (Filipino Martial Arts),” according to the release.

“We joke that we are a martial arts school with a free weights gym attached to it,” according to the release.

The focus of The Homer Gym is on free weights, calisthenics, fight conditioning and coaching, and self defense.

The club fills a different niche than other athletic facilities in Homer.
