Homer High grad named to list of top women in PR

ANCHORAGE – PR News has named Jennifer Thompson, president and CEO of Thompson & Co. Public Relations, to its first-ever list of Top Women in PR.

Thompson graduated from Homer High School in 1988 and left soon after for college. Her father was Jack Walsh, the art and pottery teacher at Homer High; her mother, Lynn Walsh, worked at South Peninsula Hospital.

The PR News award program recognizes the most influential women in the public relations profession, spanning a wide range of industries and sectors, both domestic and international. Jennifer Thompson and Thompson & Co. make the inaugural list with the likes of public relations executives for such internationally recognized brands and agencies as CNN, Coca Cola North America, MGM Resorts International, Porter Novelli, Ruder Finn, Time Warner Cable, Toyota Motor Sales and Under Armour.

Winners were selected by a panel of PR executives, as well as by the staff of PR News. Honorees were celebrated during a special awards luncheon this week in New York City.

According to PR News, the list is comprised of “women who have made bold advances in managing crises, developing brand messages, protecting and building brand reputations and creating content for digital platforms, for their own organizations or for clients.”

“It’s amazing to see Jennifer receive this recognition because, to our team, it’s so obviously well deserved,” said Meghan Aftosmis, Thompson & Co. vice president, New York. “When our staff nominated her, we had a lot of fun coming up with the three words that best described her for the application. It’s hard to sum up Jennifer in three words. She is a smart, savvy, giving, thoughtful, loyal and fearless leader. We couldn’t be more proud of her.”

As president and CEO, Thompson ensures that everything the agency produces is strategic, consistent and is done in the name of what is highest and best for the client. She is often involved at the planning level of new projects, oversees the agency’s senior team on all client work and manages the agency’s largest client, according to a press release.

With offices in New York and Alaska, Thompson & Co. is a bi-coastal public relations firm specializing in brand messaging, media relations, social media strategy, event coordination, crisis planning and more for a wide range of industries and non-profit clients.
