Project GRAD students from Kachemak Selo — from left, Ksenia Reutov, Mariania Reutov and Katherine Konev — ask Joel Markis of the University of Alaska Southeast questions about the university’s fisheries technology program during last week’s College, Career and Job Fair at the Kachemak Bay Campus. The fair was a chance for students and the public at large to meet with employers, explore options for a variety of jobs and careers, and learn more about what the University of Alaska offers in Homer as well as other UA campuses.

The Homer College, Career and Job Fair attracted between 150-200 people last Friday, according to Kim Frost, student and enrollment services coordinator for Kachemak Bay Campus, Kenai Peninsula College-University of Alaska Anchorage.

“There was great community participation and great participation from Homer area schools, including schools across the bay,” said Frost. “A fun time was had by all.”

Feedback forms have been sent to all presenters and participating schools, training programs, agencies and businesses, but Frost said on-site comments were all positive. KBC classrooms, meeting rooms and commons area were filled as attendees took advantage of everything being offered.

“I don’t think we could have fit one more presenter in,” said Frost. “I think we finally found the maximum number so we can provide both as much information as possible and still make it easy on traffic and keep it fluid so it’s not overly stuffed and crowded.”

The next college, career and job fair will be in 2016, with a kids-to-college fair in 2015.
