South Peninsula Hospital announces the opening of a specially designed treatment gym in the hospital’s pediatric therapy clinic. The versatile, kid friendly space is complete with an adaptive climbing wall, interchangeable swings, a jumpoline and a one way mirror for parents to observe their children in therapy sessions. It is uniquely designed to engage children in play-based therapy, and is decorated with whimsical, colorful, nature-themed artwork purchased by the SPH Auxiliary.

The gym is the final piece in completing the community’s first multidisciplinary pediatric therapy clinic which offers physical, occupational and speech/language therapies for children from birth to adolescence. The clinic offers a multi-disciplinary team approach to care, including the child, the family and the providers, which include: Amy Lower, speech language pathologist; Jackie Forester, occupational therapist; and Katie Beckmann, physical therapist. The clinic program includes comprehensive evaluations and individualized treatment plans for each child, and may address motor skills, sensory integration, social skills and communication.

The pediatric clinic and gym are located in the SPH Rehabilitation Department of the hospital. The public is invited to see the new clinic on Halloween when it serves as a Trick-or-Treat Fun House for kids 7 years old and younger from 2-5p.m., or on Friday, Dec. 6, at a community open house.

For more information on the clinic or to set an appointment, contact the hospital’s Rehabilitation Department at 235-0370.
