KPC dorm registration opens

Applications are slow, but promising, for the new residence halls at Kenai Peninsula College’s Kenai River Campus in Soldotna.

By mid-afternoon Monday, three people had completed applications and more than 25 people were on the waiting list, said Suzie Kendrick, advancement program manager for the college.

“The very first student who registered, registered at 12:45 this morning,” Kendrick said. “That person was excited and up and wanting to complete it.”

Kendrick said no one was expecting the dorms to fill quickly and the residence life director estimates at least half of the 96 beds will be filled.

“Typically they’ll get a few more here and there and then come the first of June, there will be a flurry of activity,” Kendrick said.

According to college promotional materials, each apartment is fully furnished.

Four students will share a common living space and a full kitchen and each apartment has two bathrooms.

The residence halls also will have common areas, laundry facilities and an exercise room with keyed access to exterior entrances and each apartment and bedroom.

Students will pay $3,200 per semester in addition to their tuition and fees and a partnership with Alaska Christian College will allow students to opt-in for one of three meal plans at an additional cost.

The apartments are scheduled to open on Aug. 15.
