Application period open

for HEA board seat

Homer Electric Association is accepting applications for a vacancy on the board of directors for District 3.

Alaska Salmon Alliance
hires executive director

Arni Thomson has been hired as the first executive director of the Alaska Salmon Alliance. Thomson is the immediate past president of the United Fishermen of Alaska and the founding executive director of the Alaska Crab Coalition.

ASA is a not-for-profit trade association and is comprised of commercial fishermen and seafood processing companies. Established in 2011, ASA is headquartered in Kenai and will advocate for and promote salmon policies resulting in long-term opportunities and benefits to Alaskan coastal communities for future generations, according to a press release

According to David Brindle, an ASA board member, “Arni is well-known to us.  He has a broad fisheries resume and in addition, several of our members have known and dealt with Arni at the Board of Fisheries and the North Pacific Fisheries Management Council, in his capacity with UFA and the ACC for several years.”

After over two decades of involvement in Alaska Bering Sea crab fisheries policy and regulatory work, Thomson said he is looking forward to a new challenge. “I am excited about the prospects of representing the Alaska Salmon Alliance as we delve into collaborative research, public education and advocacy for science-based management,” Thomson said.
