Tutka Bay Lodge has been recognized as a 2012 Fodor’s 100 Hotel Awards winner in the Trip of a Lifetime category.

Tutka Bay Lodge has been recognized as a 2012 Fodor’s 100 Hotel Awards winner in the Trip of a Lifetime category.

Representing a “complete escape,” Tutka Bay Lodge is located at the southern end of Kachemak Bay. It was chosen from 4,000 nominations based on high style, excellent service and a one-of-a-kind stay for guests, according to a press release.

“Our Fodor’s editors and contributors are constantly evaluating hotels throughout the year, and the Fodor’s 100 represent our top hotels for travelers right now,” said Arabella Bowen, Fodor’s Travel executive editorial director.  “We look for properties with great amenities and stellar service that offer a unique experience to guests — every traveler will find a dream hotel on this list, no matter what their travel personality.”

An all-inclusive wilderness resort, Tutka Bay Lodge has just six cottages surrounding the main lodge, ensuring guests an intimate experience in a secluded setting, according to the release. Daily activities include kayaking, hiking, fishing and beachcombing or tidepooling. Guests also can take advantage of complimentary yoga and massage, afternoon wine tastings or cooking classes at the adjacent Cooking School at Tutka Bay.

“We are deeply honored to be recognized by Fodor’s Travel as one of 100 best hotels in the world,” said  Kirsten Dixon, co-owner and chef of Tutka Bay Lodge and Within the Wild Adventure Company. “Certainly living along the stunning shores of Kachemak Bay has made our job of making Tutka Bay Lodge distinctively world class an easy one. We take the honor seriously and look forward to an adventurous 2013 season.”

The lodge opened in 2009, but has quickly made a name for itself as one of Alaska’s most upscale retreats in large part because of the ownership of the Dixon family, a long-time Alaska family, who also own Winterlake Lodge, which is located in the Alaska Range along Alaska’s
historic Iditarod Trail. Carl and Kirsten Dixon have been operating rustic luxury lodges in the backcountry of Southcentral Alaska since 1983.

As a 2012 Fodor’s 100 Hotel Award-winning property, Tutka Bay Lodge will be featured on www.Fodors.com and in a free interactive eBook, available in the iBookstore.
