Chamber car raffle will go until Dec. 6

With 200 car raffle tickets still to be sold, Monte Davis, executive director of the Homer Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center, has announced the drawing of the winning ticket has been postponed until
Dec. 6.

The drawing was scheduled for Nov. 8; however with 200 of the raffle’s 500 tickets left to sell, Davis said the decision was made to wait a month.

Being raffled off is $25,000 toward the purchase of a car at Stanley Ford of Kenai or $15,000 cash. The other big prize is a new Honda ATV Rancher. Tickets are $100 for the car, $35 for the ATV or $130 for a combo ticket.

Proceeds from the raffle help sponsor such events as the winter carnival, cleanup day, the July 4 parade and benefit the annual Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival.

“We haven’t sold out raffle tickets for the last three years,” said Davis. “We’ve reached a point with the budget where, if we can’t come at least close to selling (the raffle) out, we’ll have to start looking at canceling things like the winter carnival or the Fourth of July parade or cleanup day. … Without this particular fundraiser, we just can’t continue to do it, but I don’t want to go there, so we’re going to postpone for a month.”

Only the date is changing. The ticket-drawing party will be held at the visitor center at 6 p.m. Dec. 6, with every 25th ticket winning a prize. Tickets are available at the centers or from board members.

“We hope the community will rise to support this,” said Davis.
