Union Strike Continues

Striking Enstar Natural Gas worker Wally Jacks waves at cars as fellow striker Geoff Decter sits in a chair behind him on Aug. 14. Members of the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 367, the strikers set up a picket line in front of the Enstar offices on the Sterling Highway. Local 367 business manager Greg Walker, Anchorage, said he could not comment on the strike.

The union has been on strike since Aug. 11 after failing to settle differences with Enstar over retirement benefits. About 150 employees are on strike. Clerical workers approved a contract and are back at work.

Enstar spokesperson John Sims said that to his knowledge the strike has not impacted meter sets and gas service connections in Homer.

“If they’re having delays, they should give me a call,” Sims said of Enstar customers.
