Police respond to 3 unrelated deaths

Posted: October 26, 2012 - 2:18pm

The Homer Police Department responded to three unrelated deaths this week.

On Sunday, a Homer man checking on his friend, from whom he had not heard in awhile, entered the friend’s home and found him laying facedown. Ryan Brown, 40, of Homer was dead of unknown causes.

Homer Police Chief Mark Robl said there were no signs of foul play. Brown’s body has been transported to the Alaska Medical Examiner in Anchorage for an autopsy.

A 911 caller at 3:17 p.m. Monday reported observing a driver slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle on Main Street. The vehicle had traveled off an embankment. Robl said it appeared Gary Longhenry, 23, of Homer had not been injured when the vehicle went off the embankment.

The cause of death is still under investigation. Longhenry’s body also has been sent to the Medical Examiner in Anchorage for an autopsy.

A caller at 1:52 p.m. Monday found an apparently deceased male on a trail between Starvin Marvin’s Pizza and Ace Towing near the base of the Homer Spit.

Roger Beasley, 49, of Seldovia suffered an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound and died at the scene, said Homer Police Lt. Randy Rosencrans. No foul play is suspected. Next of kin has been notified.
