‘Searching for Sublime’ starts
Visiting artists Jimmy Riordan, Jesus Landin Torrez III and Michael Gerace start their “Searching for the Sublime” art project next week. From 6 to 8 p.m. May 14 at Bishop’s Beach, they hold a Sublime Supper Club, an informal community event with a discussion and potlatch. The three Old Town Artists in Residence visit Homer to create an ephemeral, social art project that explores Alaska narratives centering on romantic notions of individualism, epic adventure, opportunity and the search for self within the sublime limitlessness of nature. Their installation will be a ceramic structure on the beach that will be fired and eventually house a large piece of ice to be turned into a melting musical symphony.
Other events include a firing ceremony at 8:05 a.m. May 23, another Sublime Supper Club with first sound sculpture from 6-8 p.m. May 28 and the Sublime Sculpture Activation May 29-31. For more information, visit www.bunnellarts.org.
