Beatles’ White Album to be performed at Alice’s this weekend

Posted: November 21, 2013 - 11:42am

A 14-piece band, the Mothers Superior, performs the entire Beatles album, the White Album, first released 45 years ago on Nov. 22, 1968. Officially titled “The Beatles,” but popularly known as the White Album because of its lack of graphics and white cover, the two-disc, four-sided album of 30 songs included works that would later become classics, such as “Revolution,” “Helter Skelter,” “Back in the USSR,” “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” “Dear Prudence,” “Blackbird” and “Rocky Raccoon.”

Released 18 months after “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” the White Album came at a time of discord in the band. Rock critic Lester Bangs described it as “The first album by The Beatles or in the history of rock by four solo artists in one band.”

The Mothers Superior performs at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Alice’s Champagne Palace.

Tickets are $10 at the door and include a beverage. An all-ages show, minors are welcome if accompanied by an adult.
