Artist-in-schools academy offered

Artists, teachers and administrators interested in learning or refreshing skills as a teaching artist can take the Teaching Artist Training Academy 7-8:30 p.m. Nov. 8, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 9 and 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Kachemak Bay Campus. Dancer Alison Marshal, the lead presenter, gives a keynote address at 7 p.m. Friday. All are welcome to the free talk and to hear Marshal speak on the latest brain research in movement based learning.

The academy satisfies the Alaska State Council on the Arts requirement for Teaching Artists for Alaskan Artist in the School. The enrollment fee is $50, and artists and teachers may obtain college credit for an additional fee and extra course work. Artists already certified through a previous teaching academy can attend just for Saturday at a fee of $30, including lunch. Artists experienced in Bunnell Street Arts Center Artist in Schools Program also are invited to serve on a panel discussion of teaching artists 11 a.m.-noon Nov. 10.
