‘Muscle Shoals’ kicks off 10th doc film fest

Homer Theatre’s 10th annual documentary film festival begins at 6 p.m. today with gala opening festivities, which include a 6 p.m. barbecue dinner, guest speakers and the international release of the documentary “Muscle Shoals.”

Ten films are in the film festival’s lineup, plus a short documentary on the Old Believers and how they came to live on the shores of Kachemak Bay. “The Old Believers” will be shown prior to all the 8 p.m. movies during the festival.

Festival passes, which include all 10 movies and the gala, are $50 for adults and $40 for seniors (60 and older) and students. Admission to the gala event only is $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students. Tickets for any movie are $8 general and $6 for seniors, students and children. Admission to the 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. shows is $6.

Festival films are shown at 2 p.m.,
4 p.m. 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. beginning Friday through Oct. 3.

The festival films include:

•“Blackfish”;

•“The Crash Reel”;

•“Muscle Shoals”;

•“20 Feet from Stardom”;

•“Cutie and the Boxer”;

•“The Trials of Muhammad Ali”;

•“Dirty Wars”;

•“Where the Trail Ends”;

•“One Track Heart”; and

• “Genetic Roulette.”
