Rasmuson offers lower-48 artist residencies

Alaska artists who have received Rasmuson Foundation Individual Artist Awards can apply for one of four artist eight-week residencies in the Lower 48. Arts organizations participating in the program are Zygote Press, Cleveland, Ohio; McColl Center for Visual Art, Charlotte, N.C.; the Santa Fe Art Institute, Santa Fe, N.M., and the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, Woodside, Calif.

The deadline for Alaska artists to apply is Sept. 15 for 2014 residencies. More information for applicants, including instructions on completing an online application, are available on the Rasmuson Foundation website at rasmuson.org. 

The Rasmuson Foundation also is bring four artists to Alaska for residencies this year. Visiting Homer on a residency is Melissa Daubert, who will be in residency at the Bunnell Street Arts Center in Homer. Daubert creates interactive art where visitors play active roles in the life cycle of the work. She works primarily in three dimensions and often uses kinetics and interactivity to engage visitors.

Other visiting artists are Marjorie Gellhorn Sa’adah, a creative nonfiction writer, in residency at the Island Institute in Sitka; Marty Two Bulls Jr., a musician and artist in at the  Alaska Native Art Center, University of Alaska Fairbanks; and Marek Ranis, at the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center.
