Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies seeks artists for ‘S.O.S.’ show

Posted: June 26, 2013 - 4:24pm

The Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies seeks artists for its “S.O.S.” marine debris art show. “Debris Dangles: From Marine Debris to Strands of Home from the Sea Art Project” invites artists to create art from selected bags of marine debris collected from Alaska beaches. Each artist will receive 10 pieces of similar marine debris. The debris can be painted, sculpted and adorned, but the structural integrity must remain intact. All art should be able to be hung from the ceiling. Bags of debris can be collected from the CACS office on Lake Street through June 30. Submissions are due Aug. 1, with a First Friday show opening Aug. 2. Art will be displayed around town until Sept. 12.

A People’s Choice and Best of Show Award will be given out during the Kachemak Bay Coastwalk opening event on Sept. 12. Art can be purchased, with half of proceeds supporting CACS. For more information, contact Melanie at 235-6667 or email info@akcoastalstudies.org.
