Arctic Winter Games holds theme song contest

The Fairbanks 2014 Arctic Winter Games host society is holding a theme song contest. Song writers are invited to submit songs that reflect the “Great Spirit-Northern Dreams” of the games, to be held in Fairbanks in March of 2014. The Arctic Winter Games is a week-long international sports and cultural event, with participants from the circumpolar north.

“We are hoping for a song that really represents the excitement of the youth that participate in the games,” said Karen Lane, general manager for the Fairbanks Arctic Winter Games. “This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to hear their music performed in front of several thousand youth and thousands of spectators.”

Songs must have lyrics and may be performed solo or by a group. The winning artist also may be selected to perform the song at the Arctic Winter Games. Past Arctic Winter Games songs can be heard at www.arcticwintergames.org. Contestants must be Alaska residents. The top five finalists’ songs will be posted online for judging, and the winner will be announced July 30. The winner(s) of the contest will receive an Arctic Winter Games sweatshirt of their choice and fame. The song will be used for promotion of the 2014 AWG.
