Parsifal is next in opera series

Posted: April 17, 2013 - 2:45pm

How does a young man who doesn’t even know his own name become part of a vision “that a blameless fool made wise through compassion will become the King of the Grail?” That’s the plot of Richard Wagner’s “Parsifal,” the next-to-last Live at the Met opera showing 6 p.m. April 25 at the Homer Theatre.

For the 2013 version, the New York Post called it “A magnificent new production ... an exquisite pleasure for the eye and ear, it’s also food for the soul.”

Follow Parsifal as he travels though events that lead him to become that “King of the Grail.” Don’t wait to check out the opera to see if it is something you would like. Make a full season next year.

Make a full night of it. You can have a meal or a snack before, compliments of the Homer Theatre. There is great cinema, splendid sound, wonderful costumes and settings as well as subtitles to keep you abreast of what is happening. Partake of Homer Opera “Champaign” and finger foods at intermission. Experience the magic of Metropolitan Opera in your own hometown. The price is right also. Adults are $15, seniors are $10 and we still have complimentary tickets for those students who would like to check it out.

Vonda Nixon is an opera lover and recent resident of Homer.
