Annual Nutcracker Ballet opens
The 24th annual production of Homer’s Nutcracker Ballet opens with a matinee performance at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Mariner Theatre, with shows also at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. The ballet continues next weekend at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 and 3 p.m. Dec. 8. All tickets are $10 and on sale at the Homer Bookstore and River City Books in Soldotna.
Applications due for Bunnell proposals
Applications are due Nov. 30 for the Alex Combs Artist Award. A designated fund administered by Bunnell Street Arts Center, working artists can apply for up to $1,500 to explore new techniques and ideas through workshops and symposiums. Applicants must be Alaska artists working in ceramics, painting or sculpture. The award is based on the merit of the work and proposal. To apply, submit a letter of intent, five digital images not larger than 1 megabyte each of work that has been completed in the last two years, an artist statement and resume.
Bunnell Street Arts Center also is accepting applications for visual arts exhibitions in 2014, with the deadline extended to Dec. 31. Applications in all media and formats including solo, group and interdisciplinary arts are welcome. To apply, submit the following for a peer review panel: a letter of intent for the exhibit, five digital images not larger than 1 megabyte each of work that is representative of what applicants wish to exhibit, an artist statement and resume. HCOA seeks Arts Awards nominees
The Homer Council on the Arts seeks nominations for its annual Arts Awards. HCOA honors community members in the categories of arts leadership/advocacy, arts education, youth artist of the year, artist of the year, arts lifetime achievement and business arts patron.
