“Are we out of the woods yet?”
“Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.”
These were just a few of the quotes running through the Betster’s mind this morning when, upon bundling bleary-eyed out to the ole transporter, the Betster was rudely awakened by an audacious fall of thick, wet snow.
This Betster would have reacted in anger and outcry had the shock factor not been so strong. Truly, how many other Homerites thought we were well out of this nonsense?
Apparently nothing delights Mother Nature more than toying with our emotional health.
Speaking of Mother Earth, her special day (Earth Day) is coming up on Sunday, so start thinking of ways to please her.
Maybe some of these Best Bets will give you inspiration:
BEST BROTHY BET: Get back to the basics today if you’ve got the time, with Thriving Thursday’s “Making Bone Broth.” This event is free and open to the public and will be held from 6-8 p.m. tonight at SVT Health and Wellness. The course is with Sunni Hilts, Soup Enthusiast. Sunni will share the health benefits and the preparation of bone broth. She will discuss various methods for making, storing and using this delicious, inexpensive and nourishing broth.
BEST BETTER HOMER BET: Looking for a way to do your part and green up the town in the wake of Earth Day? Homer Wilderness Leaders (HoWL) has been hosting clean-up days, and there are two left on Friday and Saturday. Youth ages 8-18 are invited to meet after school in the Chamber of Commerce parking lot where they will be assigned teams and dispatched around town to clean up our beaches, streams and roadways. Participants will get free pizza and a chance to win fun raffle prizes at the conclusion of each day. The clean-ups go from 3-5:30 p.m.
BEST BOOKISH BET: It’s time again for the Spring Book and Plant Sale! It’s a good time to look for some new book treasures at our biannual sale. If you have plants to donate, please bring them starting today. Interested in volunteering for the sale? Call 435-3195. The members only Book and Plant Pre-Sale is from 6-8 p.m. Friday, while the all-day sale is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Homer Public Library.
BEST BOATY MCBOATFACE BET: Can it really be that Bay Welding has already made its 200th boat? Apparently so, because there’s a party to celebrate that from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday at Bay Welding. Bay Welding Services would like to thank its clients, vendors and the community of Homer for your support since its first boat was built in 1997. They would like to invite the community to a celebration of their 200th boat Saturday, April 21st from 4 to 8pm at their business location located at 3301 East End. Come tour their current projects including a custom 50 foot catamaran and a 442 foot whale watching boat. This event is free and open to the public.
