HCOA offers circus, scrimshaw, body movement classes this winter
The Homer Council on the Arts offers classes for circus arts, scrimshaw and body movement this winter. From Jan. 24-March 9, circus arts classes include Aerial Fabric from 3:30-4:45 p.m. for beginning and intermediate students and from 4:45-6 p.m. for teens and adults, with a fee of $180 HCOA members and $216 for nonmembers. Conditioning classes for all ages are 6-7 p.m., with a fee of $120 for members and nonmembers. All classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Aerial silk classes are in the Fireweed Academy yurt.
From Jan. 31-March 9 from 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Conrad Field teaches scrimshaw. Field guides students through carving techniques on various materials, ending with a mounted piece of art on bone or antler. For ages 11 and older, the fee is $200 for members and $240 for nonmembers, with scholarships available.
Body Moves with Dotti Harness-Foster and Cathy Stingley (with live music) is 10:30-11:45 a.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 25-March 1 and April 5-May 10. Designed to increase mobility, flexibility, stability, and to increase camaraderie and socialization, this weekly class is for adults with mobility challenges. The fee is $75 for members, $90 for nonmembers and a drop-in fee of $15. The introductory class is free. To register for any of these classes, visit homerart.org or call 235-4288.
